Nino's Pizza & Chicken, Katherine

Nestled out back of the supermarket (does it matter if it is a Coles or Woolworths!), across from the Katherine Tourism Centre, Nino's curtains and door remains stolidly closed until evening twilight.  The window in which a pizza can be bought is short: they try to close around 9, as after that - vouchsafed the owner - too many drunks stumble in.  But within this temporal window to a rather unadorned store, many gullets by feet drift to the counter, order ribs, chicken or pizza, wait around just a little too long -as the adage runs "our food is good food, not fast food" - then leave with steaming goods in arms.  But the wait is surely worth it.
We ambled into Nino's each time our car rattled Katherine-way, ordering every time the Nino's special.  A homespun - not pre-frozen - base, generous ingredients including large prawns, a Babel of meat and enough cheese to clog the healthiest arteries.  This is Australian style pizza as it should be, as it was in the suburbs of Melbourne during my childhood.  I am sure, if there were burrs in the grass in which my bloated body rolled after engorging myself so ardently, my belly surely would have popped.
If you enjoy sickeningly over-eating, and gnawing on Australian style pizza as it should be, then drop into Nino's Pizza and Chicken in Katherine and order their special.
